A tribunal yesterday sentenced seven people to life imprisonment for killing a local Juba League leader in Munshiganj district in 2014. The convicts are Sohel Choukidar, Emarat Choukidar, Awlad Choukidar, Badhan, Rony Kazi, Raja Khan and Masud Talukdar. Of them, Raza Khah is in prison while others were tried in absentia. The tribunal also fined them Tk 20,000 each and acquitted 16 other as allegations against them were not proved.
According to the prosecution, a group of miscreants intercepted a bus in Alamin Bazar of Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj on March 6, 2014 and opened fire on Shaheen, a local Juba League leader, while returning home from Dhaka, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, Shaheen's aunt Kanan Begum filed a case against 23 people with Srinagar PS and police submitted a charge-sheet against 22 of them on June 26, 2015.
