Students of Seven DU-affiliated colleges block road in capital

Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University called off their blockade at New Market intersection in the capital’s Nilkhet area after four hours yesterday to press home their five-point demands. They also said they would resume their demonstration today (Wednesday).

Around 250-300 students formed a human chain in front of Dhaka College and blocked the Nilkhet-New Market intersection around 11:30am. They demanded the publishing of faultless result of all department examinations within 90 days of examinations, publishing of cause of failure in all examinations, a seperate administrative building for seven colleges.

They also demanded that teachers from Dhaka University must take a class in every department at least two days in a month and publication of academic calendar along with crash programme to reduce session jam.

The students said that they are demonstrating against the irregularities imposed by DU authorities. They will not leave until their demands are met by the DU authority; and till then all activities of these seven colleges will be on hold.

They claimed that after being affiliated with the Dhaka University their normal education  process became slow.

The affiliated colleges are — Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.

BSS Adds: A Dhaka court yesterday set May 26 to submit probe report in the case lodged over 2017 clash between students of DU-affiliated colleges and police in Shahbagh here. Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari set the date as investigation officer failed to submit the report yesterday.

Students of seven government colleges in Dhaka which have been affiliated with the Dhaka University (DU) took to the street on July 20, 2017, with various demands including announcement of the date of their exams.

At one stage, they locked in clash with law enforcers as they tried to push the students out of the street for vehicular movement.

A couple of students and several law enforcers were injured in the clash.
