Indonesians keen to explore potential investment areas in Bangladesh

Indonesian investors are keen to explore potential investment areas in Bangladesh to expand their trade and business. They are looking to invest in areas of energy, railway, food and poultry, and tourism.

The investors are going to participate in ‘IndonesiaFair 2019’ for the second time to unlock the areas of trade and investment for the mutual benefits of both Bangladesh and Indonesia.  Last year, the fair fetched USD 270 million. Over 75 Indonesian business entities are coming here this year to participate in the fair and explore the investment areas. The three-day-long fair will take place on April 25–27.

The Indonesian ambassador to Bangladesh, Rina P. Soemarno, told this to reporters at a press conference at the International Convention City Bashundhara of the capital. Mostafa Q Sobhan, director of the Indonesia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was also present.

Rina said a number of instruments were inked at the last year. Some instruments will also be inked this year to unlock the investment potential in different sectors for the benefits of the two friendly countries, she added.

Around 40 Indonesian business entities will showcase diverse consumer and industrial goods and services at the fair. Indonesian boutiques, fashion jewelry, handicrafts, foods and beverages, automotives and special offers to tourism destinations will also be showcased.

Rina said the fair would encourage Indonesian entrepreneurs and companies to expand their businesses in Bangladesh directly. It will also encourage them to invest in Bangladesh, she added.

A number of Indonesian state-owned enterprises, such as PT Pertamina (oil and natural gas industry), PT INKA (railway industry), Garuda Maintenance Facility Aeroasia (maintenance, repair and overhaul industry), PT PINDA (military and heavy equipment industry), and the Indonesian railway consortium will participate in the event to explore the investment potential in Bangladesh, said the Indonesian ambassador.

The secretary general of the Indonesian ministry of foreign affairs, Mayerfas, will lead the delegation from Indonesia at the fair, while Bangladesh commerce ministry secretary Mofizul Islam will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony. The Indonesian embassy and the Indonesia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry will organise the Indonesia-Bangladesh Business and investment Forum on April 26 at the fair. This forum will gather Indonesian and Bangladeshi business communities to discuss business and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

The executive chairpersons of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Indonesia Investment Board will be the panelist at the forum and share their expertises and views on the subject of trade and investment. Railway minister Nurul Islam Sujon will be present as chief guest at the forum and deliver a keynote speech.

During the event, a number of B2B matching sessions will be organised. Around 25 Indonesian businesses and companies have registered their names to meet prospective partners in Bangladesh to discuss business ventures and investment cooperation.

At the opening ceremony, Indonesian buses, exported by CV Laksan, will be handed over to Shohag Group. During the three-day-long gala event, visitors will be able view the buses and other products of CV Laksana, Indonesia’s world-class manufacturer in the commercial vehicle industry.
