UNB, Narayanganj

Two garment workers were burned to death and eight others injured in an explosion believed to have been caused by a gas line leak in a house at Bhulta of Rupganj upazila early yesterday. The deceased were identified as Shamim, 30, hailing from Meherpur district and Rakib, 33, hailing from Jhalakathi district.

A group of garment workers numbering 10-12 used to live on the ground floor of a 3-storey house owned by a 'Rabeya Akhter Mili' in the area.

The explosion took place with a big bang around 3:15 am, leaving eight people injured, said inspector Rafiqul Alam, in-charge of Bhulta Police Station quoting the victims.

Rescued by the locals, the six critically injured victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared the duo dead. A wall of the house was blown away following the blast.
