Youth gets life for possessing heroin

A trial court here on Thursday sentenced a drug peddler to life in prison as the court found him guilty of possessing 100 grams of heroin. The convict is Sujan Ali, 25, son of Piarul Islam of Mohishalbari village under Godagari Upazila in the district. He was also fined Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more behind the bars.

Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Anup Kumar found Sujan guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict in presence of the convict. The prosecution story, in brief, is that, on a tip off, a police team arrested Sujan Ali with 100 grams of heroin after raiding a human hauler in Hatpara area on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway under the same upazila in the district on July 21, 2017.

Subsequently, a case was lodged with Godagari Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing Sujan Ali.
