Five get life for abduction

A court here on Monday sentenced five people to life imprisonment for kidnapping a child in 2007.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Ismail also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each. They will have to spend another year in jail if they fail to pay it.

The convicts are - Md Yunus, 33, Md Yasin, 32, Nayan Dhar, 34, Md Nitu Alias Litu, 33, and Md Prince, 34. Prince is absconding.

According to case statement, Nayan and his accomplices abducted his minor cousin Ujjal Dhar from Mahalchhari bazar area.

They threatened to kill Ujjal and demanded Tk 500,000 from his family.

Yunus and Yasin were later arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion from Chattogram’s Choumohoni. Rab rescued Ujjal from a house in Agrabad Muhuripara residential area.
