Bangladesh yet another will host the next edition of the Emerging Asia Cup Cricket Tournament in December after around two years.
Last time Bangladesh had organised the all Asian cricket tournament in 2017, when Sri Lanka lifted the trophy thrashing Pakistan by five wickets.
The number of teams will be remained same as all the Test playing nations including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan along with three other teams, who will come from the qualification round, will take part in the tourney for Under-23 players.
AEM Kawser, senior national manager of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Games Development, made the disclosure to The Independent at his BCB office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.
“Bangladesh once again will host Emerging Asia Cup Cricket Tournament. The eight-nation tournament will be kicked off in December this year,” said AEM Kawser.
Organised by Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the tournament for the Under-23 players will be held on regular basis from now. BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon, who is currently president of the ACC, vowed to organize all the tournaments under the patronize of the ACC. Along with that, Papon said that they will work on those areas how they can cooperate each other.
Bangladesh meanwhile brought changes in their High Performance (HP) unit, which will nurture only U-23 players from now so that they could play such kind of tournament.
BCB director and HP committee chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy said in his first speech that they have chalked out a discrete programme for their High Performance (HP) unit.
From now, the unit will conduct only by their own programme for U-23 players. But they could take part in the combined programme with ‘A’ team so that they can play bilateral series and multi-team tournament for A team beside their own programme.
Emerging Team will travel to Sri Lanka just after their scheduled training programme. Besides, they will also play the Emerging Asia Cup at home turf.
