Students and guardians have expressed their dissatisfaction for the rescheduling of the routine of the Higher Secondary School (HSC) certificate examinations. The authorities concerned have rescheduled examinations of 12 subjects due to Shab-e-Barat and some other issues.
Terming it a mismanagement of the authorities concerned, they said the authorities concerned could have thought about the possibilities and made accommodations before formulating the routine for holding public examinations. The shifting of the examinations for nearly one month from the original date cannot be desirable when the government is thinking to shorten the timetable of holding exams, they said.
However, the authorities concerned said they make the routine for holding public examinations following the calendar of the government holidays which are made at the beginning of the year.
However, brushing aside the allegation of mismanagement over preparing the routine, Chairman of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education M Ziaul Haque told The Independent yesterday, “Generally we prepare exam routine following government’s holiday. We had the date of Shab-e-Barat on April 21 but now it will be observed on April 22. So we have changed the schedule of some examinations on the date.”
“We cannot call it mismanagement in making the routine. We cannot know it beforehand as such religious matters depend on sighting on moon,” he added.
As the Muslim festivals like Shab-e-Barat depend on the sighting of the moon, it cannot be known beforehand which ultimately affects the schedule, the chairman continues.
According to the government holidays, the date of the Shab-e-Barat was on April 21 but now the date has been changed to April 22 following the sighting of the moon.
As per the revised schedule, the examinations scheduled for April 22 will now be held on May 12 from 10 am to 1pm.
The examinations which coincide with Shab-e-Barat were the second paper examinations of Physics (theoretical), Accounting, Logic, and Business Organisation and Management.
The authorities have also rescheduled eight other subjects because some of the students had the schedule to sit for two exams both in the morning and in the afternoon. Now as per revised schedule these students will attend only one exam.
As per the revised schedule, the examinations scheduled for April 17 will now be held on May 9 from 2 pm to 5pm. The examinations are first paper examinations of Arabic, Sanskrit and Pali.
The examinations dated for April 18 will now be held on May 11 from 2 pm to 5 pm. The examinations are second paper examinations of Arabic, Sanskrit and Pali.
Another change of the routine, the first paper examinations of Home Economics has been shifted from morning to afternoon on May 4 from 2pm to 5pm while the second papers will be held on May 6 from 2pm to 5pm.
Board sources said the other subjects
of the examinations will be held as per the previous routine.
About the rescheduling of some other subjects, M Ziaul Haque said, “It has been done as examinations of some examinees were scheduled both in the morning and in the afternoon.
So now they will attend only one exam a day. It has been done for their convenient.”
About shortening the examination schedule, he said, “We are trying to cut down the timetable of the public examinations. It will be made in the future.”
