7 get life for murder in 2 dists

Six people were sentenced to life term imprisonment in Noakhali and Habiganj districts yesterday.

In Noakhali, a court yesterday awarded life term imprisonment to a man for killing his wife in Begumganj upazila of the district on February 07, 2015.

The court also fined convict Farhadul Islam, son of Nurul Huda, a resident of Hgatla-Kadirpur of the upazila, Taka one lakh, a court official said.

According to prosecution, Farhadul along with his other family members killed his wife Amena Begum, 27, on February 7, 2015 over family feud.

After the incident, Aleya Begum, elder sister of the victim, filed a murder case with Begumganj police station against five persons including Farhadul. Police submitted charge sheet after investigation.

Later, Additional District and Session Judge M Faruque after examining 17 witnesses and evidences handed down the verdict.

In Habiganj, six people were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here on Monday for killing a farmer in 2005.

The convicts are - Moshahid, Mohon Mia, Ziaur Rahman, Wahab Ullah, Chan Mia of the district’s Ajmiriganj upazila; and Dilu Mia of Kishoreganj. All of them, except Moshahid and Ziaur, are absconding.

Additional District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza also acquitted 14 other accused.

Farmer Toton Mia, 65, was found dead near a water body at Khagdair in Ajmiriganj on October 31, 2005. His wife Anwara Begum filed a case against 20 people at the Judicial Magistrate’s Court on November 15 that year.

Police pressed charges in court against 20 people on March 19 the next year.
