Friendship motor rally to begin Nov 14

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) Friendship Motor Rally under the Motor Vehicle Agreement will begin on November 14, reports UNB.
The minister announced this at a press briefing at the ministry yesterday. Obaidul Quader said the motor rally which will start at Bhubaneswar in Orissa of India will enter Bangladesh through Biloniya border in Feni via Ranchi in Bihar, Patna, Kathmandu, Biratnagar in Nepal, Fuentsoling, Thimpu, Bhumthang, Mongar in Bhutan, Gawhati, Shilchar of Asam in India, Agartola in Tripura on November 28.
“A seminar on the motor rally will be held in Dhaka on November 29 and the rally will end in Kolkata via Benapole port on November 30,” added the minister.
The minister said according to the agreement, the construction of the fixed routes will be ended up in January.
“We also hope that the formal plying of passenger vehicles among the countries will be started in January,” he said.
He also said the passenger vehicle trial run will be conducted on fixed routes of four countries in October-November.
The minister added the name of an operator will have to be sent to ADB for possible route of Cargo Vehilce Trial Run.
On August 24, the Cabinet ratified the ‘Motor Vehicles Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger, Personal, and Cargo Vehicular Traffic with Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal’ (BBIN), aiming to boost road connectivity in the region.
This framework agreement was signed during the Transport Ministers’ meeting of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal on June 15 in Bhutan.
Officials concerned (of Joint Secretary Level) of the four countries gathered at a meeting in Dhaka on September 8-9 to finalise the deal and proposal.
