Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday stressed the need for producing standard products to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the competitive world, reports BSS.
“Locally produced goods are not only used in Bangladesh but also exported abroad. So, it is to upgrade the standard of goods to achieve trust of the foreigners aimed at boosting exports,” he said this while addressing a discussion titled “Standards-the World’s Common Language” in the capital marking the 46th World Standard Day.
The minister called upon the concerned people to show zero tolerance about standard both in import and export.
“Bangladesh is heading towards the total development in a planned way under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and maintaining six percent economic growth for which the World Bank (WB) recognised Bangladesh as lower mid-income country,” he also said.
He emphasised for the knowledge-based green industrialisation to maintain the economic growth, saying that the government is setting up economic zones for foreign entrepreneurs of China, Japan, Korea, India and others countries aimed at speeding up the industrialisation. BSTI Director General Ikramul Haque presided over the discussion.
Among others, Industries Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, FBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmed and BSTI Director (standard) Rezaul Karim, spoke on the occasion.
