With the slogan ‘Bangabandhu ke Janun, Bangladesh ke Bhalobasun’, the third edition of ‘Bangabandhu Boi Mela’, began on Sunday at the Oxford House in Bethnal Green, London. The month-long fair is being jointly organised by Bangabandhu Centre London and European College of Law & Centre for Bangladesh Studies, UK. The fair includes about five hundred books written on the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The aim of the fair is to shed light on the illustrious life and works of Bangabandhu.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the fair as chief guest, while eminent journalist and columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Md Abdul Hannan, President of UK Awami League Sultan Mahmud Sharif attended the event as special guests. The event was presided over by UK Awami League Joint Secretary Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury. Besides, Prasanta Bhushan Barua (one of sponsors of the fair), Barrister Tania Amir and President of the Advisory Council of UK Awami League Alhaj Shamsuddin Khan, among others, spoke at the inaugural ceremony. Children artistes of ‘Udichi’ performed a group dance at the programme.
The second day of the fair featured children’s drawing competition on ‘Bangabandhu O Bangladesh’. Asaduzzaman Noor handed over the prizes to the participants of the competition. Asaduzzaman Noor said, “Bangabandhu is our spirit, our inspiration and our existence. In order to move our country one step forward, we have to work by taking inspiration from his works.” Besides the fair, a cultural programme featuring poetry and songs is also scheduled to take place at the month long fair at the premises of European Collage of Law in Ilford, London.
