Humayun Kabir Hira, business partner of murdered Japanese citizen Hoshi Kunio, has been placed on fresh 5-day remand in the murder case.
A Senior Judicial Megistrate Court in Rangpur granted the remand yesterday after police, on expairy of ten days remand, produced Hira before the court and sought fresh five-day remand to interrogate him further over the killing of Japanese citizen Kunio.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Abdul Malek of Rangpur Judge Court told the Journalists that police sought further remand to extract more information from Humayun Kabir Hira.
Earlier, on October 7, the same court placed Kunio’s business partner Hira and BNP activist Biplob on 10-day remand each in the murder case. On October 10, the court sent Biplob to jail before completion of his 10-day remand.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion and police, in separate drives, arrested Biplob and Hira from different parts of Rangpur city. They were later shown arrested in the Hoshi Kunio murder case.
On October 3, Hoshi Kunio was shot to death at Alutari in Kaunia upazila of the district.
Meanwhile, many male members in Alutari village are staying away from their homes since the murder of the Japanese. Locals said many of the inhabitants, who work as day labourers, have fled their homes fearing police harassment and arrest. But this has caused financial hardship to their families. Shah Alam, who had leased two bighas of land to Hoshi Kunio for his grass project, has also fled from his home fearing police harassment, said his family.
Locals have urged the district administration and police to stop harassment by the police and to bring back normalcy in the village.
