Awami League has nominated Ekramul Hoque Titu as its mayor candidate in the maiden elections to Mymensingh City Corporation. The decision was taken at a meeting of the party's local government nomination board chaired by Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban yesterday, said a press release. Titu, who was elected mayor in the last polls to the local government body when it was a municipality, is currently serving as administrator of the city corporation.
Titu is also a vice-president of the party's Mymensingh city unit, said Advocate Moazzem Hossain, general secretary of district Awami League.
Earlier on March 25, the Election Commission (EC) announced the maiden election to Mymensingh City Corporation to be held on May 5. Electronic voting machines will be used in all the 130 voting stations in the election of the country's 12th city corporation.
According to the election schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination paper is April 8, while the date for the scrutiny of the nomination papers is April 10 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 17. The entire city election will be held with EVMs.
