Premier football resumes today

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

After a month long interval, the Bangladesh Premier League football will resume from today with two matches  taking place in Dhaka and Mymensingh. Brothers Union will face Rahmatganj MFS at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, while Saif Sporting Club will face NoFeL Sporting Club at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh.

Both the Brothers Union and Rahmatganj will play their 10th round match when the former are in very awkward position with earning only three points from nine matches staying at the bottom place along with Team BJMC, who earned as many points.

Brothers, once one of the Dhaka giants, could manage only a win and  suffered eight defeats out of nine encounters when their big damage was done by newcomers NoFeL by 2-0 in the eighth round match.

But Rahmatganj, despite in a poor condition, working hard to survive slowly with obtaining eight points from one win and five draws, as they are now in ninth position in the 13 teams league.

While, Saif Sporting Club, who began the league with an expectation to fight for the title are now on fourth position with 17 points before to start the 10th round, eight points behind the leaders Bashundhara Kings.

NoFeL, who will also play their 10th round match are trying hard to run away from the danger zone before to start the second leg when they amassed eight points from two wins and as many draws.

Before to resume the league, since its break  on March 5, Bashundhara Kings are leading the table with 25 points from nine matches, closely followed by the reigning champions Abahani Limited (24 points from 10 matches) and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra (20 points from nine matches).

The league was called off for one month due to national team’s assignment for the FIFA Friendly match, the national Under-23 team played in the AFC Under-23 qualifying matches and Abahani Limited played a group phase match in the AFC Cup.

Now it will take more than one month to complete the first leg as the league matches would again be stopped when the Bangamata  Under-19 International Tournament will be held from April 22 and Abahani will play their AFC Qualifying home matches during the period.
