The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is drawing nearer as 52 more days have remained for the ensuing showpiece event, which will be opened with the match of the hosts England and South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London on May 30.

Keeping the drumbeat of the 50-over extravaganza event in front, the participating teams have started announcing their squad. New Zealand among the participating teams have announced their final squad for the England and Wales World Cup as the first team.

The turn is brewing for the Bangladesh who will also announce their squad very soon before the cut-out time of April 23 set by International Cricket Council (ICC). They will kick off their week long training camp on April 22 prior to flying to Ireland for the tri-nation series involving the West Indies and the hosts Ireland.

Before announcing the Tigers’ squad, it is surfaced out that some of the players like Yasir Ali, Forhad Reza, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shafiul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Naeem Islam and so on whose names were in the World Cup line-up beside the settled squad will have slim chance to be called.

Speedster Taskin Ahmed among those names might not be placed in the final Tigers’ squad of the World Cup as the selectors are quite dark about his current fitness. Even he is yet to start his bowling in full-fledged intensity.

“Taskin Ahmed is yet to get down in the field. Even we are yet to know about his current fitness. And so, we don’t think much about an injured player until he gets down in the field,” said Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

The fast-bowler meanwhile started his bowling after being healed from his injury. It is learnt that he will stage his much-needed comeback in competitive cricket with the Super League of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) if everything is going on well. But the chief selector said that there is a gulf of difference between playing here in Bangladesh domestic cricket and in World Cup.

Before being stuck in injury in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he was sidelined for the entire 2018 with his injury. His injured recurred while fielding in the last BPL match against Chittagong Vikings and was out of cricket for the last three months.

He was ruled out of the concluded New Zealand tour after being named for the series. Even he did not play any round of the league phase matches of the DPL. But his condition is improving gradually because he held his first bowling session at the national academy ground of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur after two and half-a-months.

He bowled five overs in short run-ups but he did not feel any discomfort. As a result, his physio assured media that he will be eligible to bowl in DPL Super League if his development is going on in this way.

Echoing the same sentiment, Taskin said, “Feel well to hold his bowling session after two and half-a-months. I’m now working under the physio, Shawon bhai. Baijad (ul Islam) bhai and Debashis sir have also seen me. After getting through their fitness test, I started bowling again,” Taskin Ahmed said.

“I bowled 30 balls in short run-ups. The intensity will be increased with the pace of days. The way I was recovering if it is continued, I could be played cricket again since DPL Super League,” Taskin told media.

Unlike BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, the chief selector also flouted any inclusion of new player in the Bangladesh squad for the looming ICC World Cup.
