Two eminent thespians, Liaquat Ali Lucky and Golam Sarwar awarded with this year ‘Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Award’ for their contributions to theatre at a programme on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The inaugural ceremony of the festival, followed by award ceremony, was held on Thursday at the National Theatre Hall of BSA, where noted theatre personalities Ramendu Majumdar, M Hamid, Mamunur Rashid and Padatik president Syed Tasnin Hossain were present and handed over the crest to the awardees.
On the occasion of 96th birth anniversary of lifetime president of Padatik Natya Sangsad Syed Badruddin Hossain, Padatik Natya Sangsad has organised the festival.
As a part of the ongoing eight-day long drama festival, today, three different theatre troupes will bring their theatrical plays at the three different stages of BSA.
Prachyanat will stage its 15th production ‘Kinu Kaharer Thetar’ at the National Theatre Hall, while Open Space Theatre will stage its debut play ‘12 Angry Men’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall and Dhrupadi acting and design school will stage its maiden play ‘Novera’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA.
Written by Manoj Mitra and directed by Kaji Taufiqul Islam Imon, the play ‘Kinu Kaharer Thetar’ revolves around an imaginary country named Putna, where the minister of state of Putna has abused a woman. The play is a satirical play, where Putna kingdom depicts Bangladesh.
Directed by M Arifur Rahman, the play ‘12 Angry Men’ is based on the teleplay written by Reginald Rose. The story focuses on a jury’s deliberations in a capital murder case.
On the other hand, ‘Novera’ is a morodrama and follows Novera from her early years to death. Directed by Sajjad Rajib, Samiun Jahan Dola has scripted the drama based on Hasnat Abdul Hye’s novel Novera. Novera Ahmed, the key designer of the Central Shaheed Minar, was born in 1930. In the play ‘Novera’ Samiun Jahan Dola plays the role of Novera and depicts her life in the first-person narrative.
