Khulna Chhatra Dal president arrested

UNB, Khulna

Sharful Islam Babu, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal of Khulna metropolitan unit, was arrested early yesterday. Police said the student front leader is wanted in three cases, including that of subversive activities.

"Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Sonadanga central bus terminal in the city and arrested Babu," said Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu, additional deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.

2 killed in separate incidents

Two people were killed in separate incidents in the city on Thursday night and Friday morning. Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Maniruzzaman Mithu, said Jewel, 20, son of Masum Hawladar of Khalpar area, died from electrocution while working at his workshop in the city's Tutpara area around 9 am on Friday.

In another incident, Rajab Ali, 55, of Cumilla, was killed when a truck hit his motorbike at Shiramony Bypass area in the city's Khanjahan Ali area around 11 pm on Thursday. The bodies were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital.

Man held with 3,000 yaba at Shah Amanat airport

Airport authority held an outgoing passenger with 3,000 yaba tablets at Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday. The detained person was identified as Sahed, 30, hailed from Sandwip. “In the evening, the yaba tablets were found from Sahed’s bag through scanner machine during the first checking of the international exit,” said Gazi Khairul Kabir, acting manager of the airport.

He had a flight for Muscat in Oman with an airplane of Regent Airways, he added.
