Human hauler driver found dead

UNB, Savar

 

Police recovered the body of the driver of a human hauler from Mushrikhola area here yesterday. The deceased was identified as Matiur Rahman, 27, son of Abdul Mazid Mia of Kurigram district. Matiur used to live in a rented house at Nandakhali of Savar.

Locals spotted the body and informed the matter to police, said Tariqul Islam, in-charge of Bhakurta police camp. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police suspected that miscreants in guise of passengers stabbed Matiur dead in a bid to snatch his vehicle.

Dhaka Bank official arrested

UNB, Dhaka

Members of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a drive arrested an official of Dhaka Bank from the city's Kakrail on Tuesday for allegedly embezzling over Tk 7.8 crore.

The arrestee Golam Syed Raseb is a principal officer of Dhaka Bank's Feni branch. Acting on a tip-off, an ACC team conducted the drive in the area and arrested Golam, said a press release. Raseb was involved in embezzling Tk 7.8 crore from the accounts of around 38 clients when he was working as a loan officer between 2018 and March 2019.

Youth held in Rangpur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a youth for leaking fake question papers of the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinations from Nagirdah area in Kaunia upazila on Monday night.

The arrestee is Azizul Islam, 15, son of Mostafizar Rahman of the area. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Azizul at night, said RAB-13 assistant director and media wing officer AAM Imran Khan. Azizul confessed his involvement in handling fake question papers of the ongoing HSC examinations.

Man to die for killing minor

UNB, Sylhet

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for strangling a minor boy to death in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj in 2011. Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Rezaul Karim passed the order.

The convict Selim Ahmed, son of Mostab Ali of Pirpur village of Chhatak upazila, has been on the run. According to the case statement, Selim killed minor boy Jubel in November 2011 as he had dispute with the boy's father over a piece of land. On November 28, police recovered Jubel's body from a pond in Pirpur village.
