The vice-president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), Nurul Haque Nur, has given an ultimatum that the vice-chancellor (VC) take action against those who attacked Sir Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall by next Monday (April 8).
Students held a protest rally in front of the Raju Memorial, after talks with the VC of Dhaka University, Prof. Akhtaruzzaman, yesterday (Wednesday). The VC said he would take action on the basis of the investigation committee's report. Nur said: "I believe our demands will be met.
Talks with the VC on the SM Hall attack was fruitful." On his part, Dr Akhtaruzzaman said: "Investigation is underway. Action will be taken on the basis of the report. Everything has to go through a process."
DUCSU social welfare secretary Aktar Hossain, Shamsunnahar Hall VP Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi and DUCSU VP candidates Auroni Semonti Khan, Rashed, Talim Hossain Rizvi, Shafi Abdullah, Raihan and Faruk were with Nur during the talks.
Nur demanded exemplary punishment for those who attacked and assaulted him and the above-mentioned student leaders when they went to SM Hall to meet its provost on Tuesday. They had gone to formally protest against an assault, allegedly carried out by Chhatra League activists, on Farid Hasan, who had collected a nomination form for the general secretary post in hall union elections. However, when they went to the hall to meet its provost, Chhatra League activists allegedly slapped the VP and tried to stop them from meeting the provost by throwing eggs at them.
