Speakers at a function here stressed the need for creating more awareness among the people about autism to build a healthy society.
They made the call while addressing a discussion yesterday marking the World Autism Awareness Day-2019 as elsewhere of the country and the globe with the theme ‘Assistive Technology and Active Participation’.
District administration and Department of Social Services (DSS) arranged the function at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy of the town in the morning with deputy director of DSS Emdadul Haque Pramanik.
Deuty Commissioner (DC) M Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest while principal of Ahammad Uddin Shah Shishu Niketan School and College Mazharul Mannan and former commander of Sadar Upazila Muktijoddhya Sangshad Ali Akbar Miah spoke on the occasion moderated by town social services officer Mizanur Rahman Mollick.
They also emphasised on changing the mindset of the people of the society and not considering the people with disabilities as the burden of the society and requested all not to show negligence to them as they have the right to leading meaningful lives.
Earlier, a colorful rally led by DC M Abdul Matin was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of ZSA after parading the main roads of the town.
A large number of people from all walks of life including the officials, social workers, NGO activists, persons and children with disability including journalists participated in the programmes.
