The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday lodged a case against nine doctors of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on charge of corruption in appointing staffs for different posts in 2011. The accused doctors were identified as Dr Kazi Shafiqul, deputy director (Health), Dr Khorshed Shirin, deputy director (Hospital), Dr Momen Sarkar, residential physician of Medicine department, Dr Kamrun Nesa Begum, Residential surgeon (Outdoor), Department of Gynecology, Dr Md Gias Uddin, residential surgeon (Outdoor), Department of Pediatric, Dr Md Ali Asgar Chowdhury, residential surgeon (Outdoor), Department of Radiotherapy, Dr Sheikh Mohammad Jamal Mostafa, senior store officer, Dr Debashis Dutta, medical officer of World Health Organisation and Dr Nazmul Akhter, medical officer (Store).
They all were the members of evaluating committee, formed for appointing staffs in different posts in 2011. In allegation of widespread corruption and irregularities in collusion with the evolution committee CMCH authorities appointed some Class-III officials for CMCH. Getting the allegation ACC started investigation in 2012 and filed the case yesterday. In the indictment ACC said the doctors committed mass-irregularities in appointing Class-III officials for different posts. After examining the answer scripts they have found the irregularities. In the investigation report it was mentioned that to appoint staffs for different posts, CMCH authorities took an examination of 70 marks on December 2, 2011 against an advertisement which was published on November 28, 2011.
It was said that some officials appointed by the evaluation committee, they are currently are working in CMCH. After examining the answer scripts of Md Mohsin, Kazi Md Shokat Osman, Rajib Kumar Dey, Dipika Das and Sabiha Sultana ACC found no signature of invigilator. But the signature of invigilator is mandatory. It was said that these staffs got marks for wrong answers; they also got marks without giving any answers. An examinee got 2 marks for answering a question, however the marks of the question was one.
KM Misbah Uddin, deputy director of ACC filed the case on Thursday at around 9:30am with Panchlaish Police Station, said, Mohiuddin Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station. Contacted Mohiuddin told The Independent, “Mishbah Uddin filed a case against nine doctors of CMCH on charge of corruption in appointing staffs for different posts in 2011.”
