Tasiruddin Ahmed Rumi, a former Dhaka first division cricket league player and a senior official of a private insurance company, died of old age complications at a hospital in the capital recently. He was 75.
He left behind his wife, one son and one daughter to mourn his death. He was buried at Banani graveyard in the capital.
Tasiruddin Ahmed, who was popularly known as “Mama Rumi” in the sports arena as he was maternal uncle of Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin.
He hailed from Dinajpur and started his playing career in early 60s in favour of Eaglets CC as an opening batsman. He ended his career after playing a short stint in favour of Shantinagar Club after the liberation. His father Taslimuddin Ahmed was a footballer of Kolkata first division league.
Different clubs, sports organisers and players condoled the death of “Mama Rumi’ and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
