Abahani aim to win all DPL
matches in ‘ruthless’ fashion

Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the head coach of Abahani, said the team formed for the current season of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), with a hope to triumph the match against their opponent in dominating fashion in the prestigious domestic cricket league.

Sujon also said that they are yet to triumph any match barring Uttara Sporting Club in the DPL in ruthless manner as such kind of a team.

“If you look at our batting line-up, you will get to see Soumya Sarkar and Jahurul Islam Omi in opening. Wasim Jafar was in one-down. Mosaddek Hossain Shanto and Nazmul Hossain Shanto along with Sabbir Rahman Rumman are in the latter part,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

“We miss Mohammad Mithun since last two matches. Mohammad Saifuddin and Mehidy Hasan Miraj are at No 7 and 8 respectively. I think the middle order we have is the best of all the teams. Those who all are from No 4 to No 8 are batsmen. The team, who has all those batsmen, should win the match or matches in ruthless manner,” Sujon told media.

“In bowling, we have the best bowlers of the country- Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mohammad Saifuddin and Rubel Hossain are in fast bowling battery, while Sunzamul Islam, Namul Islam Opu and Miraj in spin department. To be honest, it is almost the national team. The team, such a caliber should triumph their matches ruthlessly,” he added.

Abahani are on pole position with 12 points, the identical points were also scored by Prime Bank Cricket Club and Legends of Rupganj from the same number of outings.

When asked about Prime Bank and Rupganj as opponent, Abahani coach said, “It’s very important to have remained such a tight competition in the league. Prime Bank are a better side. Rupganj are also a good side though we’re yet to play any match against Legends of Rupganj.”

“We lost a match against Prime Bank. We didn’t play well at the later part of the match. Actually both teams are of competitive strength. The biggest thing is that they all are doing well in the field,” he added.

When asked him had he faced a problem to form playing XI having such a stock of players, he said that it’s really tough to form the best eleven though he has not fell into such problem for the injuries of the players.

Today holders Abahani will take on Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity at the BKSP Ground-4 in Savar in the eight-round fixture, where they will get down without foreign player. Wasim Jaffar went back India after playing five-match road sting for the table-toppers. They will not get the service of Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Mithun and Mohammad Saifuddin due to their injuries.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will face off Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, while Legends of Rupganj will compete against Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah in the other matches of the day.
