Spinners should contain runs to
assist pacers in WC: Mehidy

Upon his arrival from the shocking New Zealand tour, on-song spin all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraj yet again becomes busy in his business in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

Miraj is now taking his preparation for the looming ICC Cricket World Cup in the gap of time what he manages beside his games in the ongoing DPL, where he play for the star-studded Abahani Limited.

This time he hones his batting skills and techniques to become a matured low-order batsman after being showcased his worth with ball so that he can contribute to the team’s cause with bat beside his cherry.

He did not get much opportunity of showing his worth with bat after being included in the national team though he batted in middle-order in ICC Youth World Cup for Bangladesh.

Keeping the condition and wicket of England in mind, the all-rounder is doing his batting practice ahead of the upcoming World Cup this time around.

“Our team, I believe, is very good and if I can contribute 20-30 more runs in the crunch moment for the team, it might be vital for the team’s success. I will not get chance to play more overs and times to make my score wider,” said Mehidy Hasan Miraj, who spoke to media after being entered wedlock recently.

“The team expects 20-30 or 30-40 runs from me also. If I can add it on the board or builds a 30-40 run partnership towards the end that would be helpful for the team. And so, I’m working on how I can contribute to the team. Because every team uses their best bowlers at that time and the field is decorated with different fielding set-ups. Now I’m taking my preparation and drilling how I can handle that situation,” Miraj told media after their practice session at the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“I’ve seen it while playing in New Zealand. The condition of England is akin to New Zealand. I’ve worked out from the teaching in New Zealand in which areas I’ve to work to fare well in the World Cup. I’m now practicing over these things when I get chance,” he added.

Meraj has experience of playing on England soil because he played ICC Champions Trophy though he got opportunity to play only one match but have a good idea about its wicket and condition.

From that experience, the spinner said that his main target is to support their pace battery on England condition with economic bowling.

“We played Champions Trophy in 2016 in England. I was a part of Bangladesh team in that tour though I got chance to play a match but I’ve seen its wicket from close. There remains very good wicket. If I try to bowl in right areas consistently, the batsmen might be done wrong sometimes,” the 22-year-old Miraj said.

“There will have no much help from spin bowling because ball comes on bat. But I’ve to bowl according to plan. I’m working on it now how I’ll execute my plan. Hopefully it’ll fetch a good yield if we could work together,” he also said.

There is no more time of starting tri-nation series in Ireland. And so, he said that it’s time to make them ready with quick preparation.

He also said that he practices regularly whatever chance he gets on the stroke of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the World Cup.

“We’ve Ireland series ahead. Then we’ll go to England for the ICC Cricket World Cup.  For this, we’ve to prepare ourselves which time we’ll get during the Premier League because we’ve no more times in hand to take our preparation separately. So, the times we’ll get in the gap of the premier league, we’ve to use that time for our preparation,” he thought.

“The responsibility of our spinners is to assist our pacers because spinners could be played a big role if the games would be played in subcontinent. But it’s England condition, where the pacers will be vital. But if we, the spinners, can support the pacers, the team will do better further,” he added.
