Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday said disaster management schooling will be provided to the 13 lakh scouts across the country so that they can stand beside the people during disaster, reports UNB.
The minister came with the announcement at a programme to distribute disaster rescue equipments among the Disaster Management Response Team of 30 districts, organised at Jatiya Scouts Bhaban in the capital’s Kakrail area.
Terming the training programme an excellent opportunity to provide humanitarian services, the minister said Bangladesh will be one step ahead to generate skilled workforce to tackle disasters.
The scouts will work as helping hands with the trained government forces and volunteers, he added.
Chaired by president of Scout Committee on Social Development Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan, the programme was also addressed by Prime Minister’s principal secretary and president of Bangladesh Scouts Abul Kalam Azad, its chief national commissioner Mozammel Haque Khan, UNDP deputy country director in Bangladesh Nick Beresford.
