At least eight people were killed and 44 others injured in separate road accidents in Narsingdi and Comilla districts yesterday.
In Narsingdi: Five people were killed and 30 others injured when two buses collided head-on on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Narayanpur bus stand area in Belabo upazila yesterday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-Charge of Belabo police station Badrul Amin said a Kishoreganj -bound ‘Ruposhi Paribahan’ bus collided head-on with another Dhaka-bound ‘Chalanbil Paribahan’ bus at around 5:30pm at Narayanpur bus stand area, leaving five people dead on the spot and 30 others injured.
The injured were taken to local hospitals, the OC said.
In Comilla: Three people were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sangkarpur in sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, reports UNB.
One of the deceased was identified as Amir Hossain, 32, hailing from Dhonkuiash village in the upazila.
OC of Moynamoti highway police Abdul Awal said the accident took place when a Ramgati-bound bus of ‘Asian Paribahan’ from Dhaka collided with a Dhaka-bound truck from Chittagong around 1.45 pm and both the vehicles then overturned. A motorcycle got smashed under the bus while it was overturning, leaving two people dead on spot and 15 passengers of the bus injured, Awal added.
Another man died on the way to hospital while the injured were being taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
