Police and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a leader of Myanmar insurgent group ‘Arakan Army’ from Islampur area in Rajasthali upazila of Rangamati early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Renin Suye, a leader of the insurgent group and a Netherlands expatriate.
Tipped off, a team of police and BGB conducted a joint drive in the area and arrested Renin from an under-construction mosque around 3:30am, said Wahid Ullah Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Rajasthali Police Station.
One laptop, two mobile phone sets, two passports and Indian rupees were also seized from his possession.
Meanwhile, Renin was put on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabrina Ali passed the order when police produced him before her court seeking 10 days’ remand.
