BGB-BSF to conduct joint patrol to curb border crimes

Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a battalion commander level flag meeting have agreed to conduct joint patrols along common borders to curb cross-border crimes. “Initiated by BGB side, the meeting was held on Dhabalkuri border inside Bangladesh near boundary pillar No- 836/7S in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat under jurisdiction of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion on Wednesday afternoon,” a press release said this afternoon. Commanding Officer of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam led the 14-member BGB delegation while the 17-member BSF delegation was led by Commandant of 148 Jalpaiguri BSF Battalion Banambar Sahoo. The five-hour meeting that ended at 3 pm elaborately discussed issues like conducting regular joint patrols, stopping firing, prevention of cross-border crimes, illegal intrusion and trespassing, smuggling of cows, arms, explosives, ammunition and drugs and development activities in bordering areas. Both sides agreed to conduct regular joint patrols on common borders in curbing cross-border crimes, illegal intrusion of criminals, smuggling and trafficking of drugs, arms, explosives and ammunition and other issues of common bilateral interests.
Talking to BSS today, Lt Colonel Mohammad Shariful Islam said the meeting was held successfully in a very friendly, cooperative and cordial atmosphere. Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Islam welcomed his counterpart BSF Battalion Commandant Banambar Sahoo with bouquets on arrival of the BSF delegation on the zero line of the border.


Man found dead in Faridpur
UNB, Faridpur

Police recovered the throat-slit body of a young man from Dhalarmor area along the bank of Padma River in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Raju Mir, 26, son of Sohrab Mir of Bhatilaxmi area. Quoting the victim’s family members, AFM Nasim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they have received a message form Raju around 2 am early Thursday with a note stating that ‘you’ll find me by interrogating Asif’.
Getting the message, they went to the Asif’s house and found his hand with a bandage and later informed it to police. Later, police detained Asif and following interrogation, police recovered the body early in the morning and sent it to local hospital morgue for an autopsy.
