Abahani meet Gazi Group in DPL7th round today

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will resume after a day-break with seventh-round games at three different venues in Dhaka and its adjacent areas today.

Holders Abahani Limited will take on Gazi Group Cricketers at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP). Abahani held their pre-match day practice session at the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

Fast bowler Rubel Hossain and fit-again wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun will not be seen in Abahani’s today’s match. It’s learnt from the insiders of the club that Mithun, who has recurred hamstring injury, healed from injury but the team management will not get down him against Gazi because they didn’t take any risk fielding him in the match against Gazi. Rubel, on the other hand, received injury on his waist. So, he has no possibility of playing the match.

However, spinning all-rounder Mahedi Hasan Miraj has joined star-studded Abahani’s tent after his married but the team management will not field him against Gazi Cricketers today.

Miraj went to his home village upon his arrival from New Zealand after month-long tour like Mustafizur Rahman. Both Miraj and Mustafiz tied the knot along with their team-match Sabbir Rahman Rumman.

After sixth-round games, Abahani Limited remained on pole position with 10 points though three other teams including Prime Bank Cricket Club, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj chalked up the identical 10 points but Abahani are top on points-table due to better net run-rate.

After their practice session, opener Soumya Sarkar said that they will compete against Gazi Group Cricketers at BKSP, where they will try to stay on the green-tinged wicket in the initial 10 overs to maintain their winning streak.

“This year we’ll play first time at BKSP. There will also have new wicket. I will try to understand the wicket first if we get chance to bat first on that wicket,” said Soumya Sarkar.

“I have heard there will have grass on wicket at BKSP. On such wicket, our target will have how we can survive in the initial 10 overs. Along with that, there will be other target how we can finish the innings keeping wickets in hand,” Soumya told media.

In the other matches, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will face off Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, while Legends of Rupganj will lock horns with Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at the She-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
