Despite all the preparations in place, the Indian authorities have postponed the ensuing home minister-level talks between Bangladesh and India that was scheduled to begin from April 1. The Indian authorities have confirmed the postponement of the high-powered talks by sending a letter to the ministry of home affairs yesterday, the sources in the home ministry said. “The Indian authorities have confirmed postponing the meeting by sending a letter to us,” Additional Secretary (Political & ICT) of Public Security Division of Home Ministry Abu Bakar Siddique told The Independent.
“May be they (the Indian authorities) are busy with their upcoming national elections,” he said. It may be noted that 2019 Indian general election is scheduled to be held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha.
The sources said, the ministry of home affairs has made all preparations to
attend the Indo-Bangla home minister-level talks to discuss different bilateral issues.
Both the parties— Bangladesh and India — have finalised the agendas like maritime security in the Bay of Bengal, drug and human trafficking, land boundary agreement, coordinated border management plan, security related issues like border killings by the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the fake currency note of the scheduled high-powered talks.
