A group of Dhaka University (DU) students formed a human chain yesterday on the premises of Raju memorial sculpture demanding safe campus. Tazul Ahmed, who was assaulted by outsiders on Tuesday, threatened to commit suicide If DU authorities would not take necessary measure to restrict outsiders and ensure trial. DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, AGS Saddam Hossain, along with DUCSU central leaders, quota reformist leaders Faruqe Hasan, Moshiur Rahman expressed solidarity with protesters.
VP said, “DU authorities did not pay any heed to students’ demand due to lack of DUCSU.” We will try to meet the students’ demand. A meeting will be held today to bring discipline on the campus, “VP added DUCSU AGS Saddam Hossain said, “We feel interrupt at our academic activities due to outsiders, we informed authorities to take immediate measure to solve the problem, if authorities won’t pay any heed to our demand then we along with students will solve our problem.”
It is to be noted, a second year student of law department named “Tazul Ahmed “ on Tuesday reportedly was beaten up by a group of seven outsiders at Palashi intersection, near the university while he was going for taking snack at the food corner stall, near the campus.
Following this incident, students held protest for safer campus and proper trial of assailants. From human chain students placed their demands including restricting public vehicles, off limiting outsiders and placed checkpoints at the University’s gates. DUCSU leaders assured them to place their demand in a written way and said they will take necessary measure to meet demand.
