Independent University convocation today

UNB, Dhaka

President Abdul Hamid will join the 20th Convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh today. The convocation will be held at 2:30pm on IUB campus in Bashundhara residential area. President Hamid, the university's chancellor, will preside over the convocation ceremony. Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury will attend as special guest. University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan will also attend the ceremony.

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder-chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, will be present as the convocation speaker. A total of 1,166 students will receive degrees from six different schools under 29 programmes and disciplines. Of them, 825 are in undergraduate programmes, while 341 students will get MA degrees.

DU to celebrate Basanta Utsab today

Dhaka University Cultural Society is going to organise spring festival titled  ‘Dhaka Bishwabidyalay Sangskritik Sangsad Basanta Utsab-1425' for the third time on TSC premises at Dhaka University (DU) today.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor will be the chief guest in the opening ceremony at 2pm. Deputy Office Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and special assistant to the Prime Minister Biplab Barua will be the special guest. Adviser of DU Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) Prof Dr Soumitra Sekhar will also present there.

Renowned actress Lucky Enam, noted dancer-choreographer Sharmila Bandyopadhyay, reciter, writer come actor Dr Vashwar Bandyopadhyay will be honoured with lifetime achievement award for their contribution to the respective fields. The day-long event, includes puppet dance, cockfight and various other folklore cultural presentations.  

Discussion held on Independence Day

Stamford University Bangladesh organised a discussion on its campus at Siddeswari in the capital on Tuesday marking the 49th Independence and National Day, says a press release  Vice-Chancellor Stamford University Bangladesh Prof Ali Naqi wsa the chief  guest while GK Babul, secretary of Jatiya Sammilita Muktijudhdha Foundation, was the special guest.

The discussion was presided by Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr K Moudud Elahi.  Faculty members of various departments, staff and students were present, among others. Meanwhile, the Southern University Bangladesh (SUB) arranged a discussion on the occasion of Independence Day at the university permanent campus in Bayazid area in the port city Chattogram on Monday.

The discussion titled ‘"The role of student society in drug control’ held while Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman BPM, PPM was the chief guest.

Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Vijay Basak BPM, PPM was the special guest while founder of Southern University professor Sarwar Jahan, Southern Trust Vice Chairman Liaquat Ali Chowdhury and Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Engineer M Ali Ashraf were present.
