Drishtipat Natyadal, one of the prominent theatre troupes of Bangladesh, is currently visiting India’s West Bengal to stage as many as three shows of its acclaimed play ‘Raja Himadri’ at three different venues.
The troupe staged the 50th show of ‘Raja Himadri’ in Medinipur, West Bengal yesterday at a theatre festival organised by Indian theatre troupe Shilpakriti. Besides, two shows of the play will be staged in Dankuni and Ashoknagar, today and Saturday respectively.
Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor has adapted and directed the play from the Sophocles’ classic ‘Oedipus’. The director converted the characters, place and the plot of the Greek tragedy to give it a sub-continental touch suitable for the contemporary local audience. The storyline, however, remains the same.
The cast of the play includes Khandaker Tazmi Noor, Marjana Borsha, Abdul Halim Aziz, Jahangir Kabir Bokul and Sreya Khandaker, among others.
