Abahani likely to field a fresh Brazilian booter in AFC Cup

Abahani Limited, the Champions of the Bangladesh Premier League, who will begin their AFC Cup campaign from April 3 with taking on Manag Marshyangdi Club of Nepal, have been continuing their practice to get ready for the AFC competition.

Abahani are in the Group E along with Manag Marshyangdi of Nepal, Chennaiyin FC and Minarva Punjab of India.

Abahani, who begin the competition with an away match, will leave Dhaka for Nepal on March 31st at 11am to play their first match on April 3 at ANFA Complex, Katmandu.

Abahani will play the second match at their home ground when they will take on Minarva Punjab on April 17 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka, their next match scheduled for away ground against Chennaiyin FC on April 30, they will host Chennaiyin FC at Dhaka on May 15 and Manag Marshyangdi on May 19 and will play the last match against Minarva Punjab in India on May 26.

However, Nazrul Islam deputy of the head coach Mario Lucinio Lemos of Portugal informed yesterday that they have been running their practice since March 11 after the players returned home playing a FIFA Friendly with Cambodia.

Nazrul said, “We did not stop our practice session although some of the players and the head coach having four days leave when our seven players were with the national side in Cambodia.”

Nazrul also informed that this time they have  no option to include any player from other team on loan but they have a new foreign booter who may join the team.

“We will have scope to include any player from other team on loan, as previous time there was a provision, now AFC did not keep the option, but we have a Brazilian player, who has been with the team for trial for last 20 days, might be play in the AFC Cup.”

“But his ITC was supposed to receive here today and if the papers will come hopefully he would have the clearance to play,” informed Nazrul.
