Tigers to start WC preparation from Irish tri-nation: Mithun

Tigers to start WC preparation
from Irish tri-nation: Mithun

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun said yesterday that they want to take their full-fledged preparation for the looming ICC Cricket World Cup from Ireland's tri-nation series.

Upon their early arrival from New Zealand due to the brazen terror attack at two different mosques in Christchurch that killed 50 people including five Bangladeshi origin, the bulk of the national players are in busy in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

They will not get enough times to take their preparation on home yard as DPL-the most prestigious domestic cricket competition will be finished towards the end of the April. So, the players are thought their pre-World Cup Ireland series will be their last chance for them to take their preparation for the 50-over mega event, which will be kicked off on May 30.

Considering the condition of Ireland is akin to England. There is also a big similarity to weather and wicket between the two countries. So, Mithun thinks that their hundred percent preparation is possible to take from their Ireland series.

“So far as we know, the condition of Ireland is almost similar to England condition,” said Mohammad Mithun, who played two DPL matches for holders Abahani Limited till now.

“Matches in Ireland will be benefited for us for our World Cup preparation. There are West Indies in the series. They are very good side. Ireland will also be stronger opponent on their home condition,” Mithun told media at the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday after their DPL practice.

“Overall, our preparation in Ireland will be good ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup,” he added.

Differing with many, who think that Tigers’ Word Cup preparation will be done with DPL matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman said that they should take extra preparation for the World Cup beside playing DPL.

“I keep my focus on Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the nonce. I’m yet to begin my preparation discretely for the World Cup. But I’ll do it very soon,” he said.

“Playing Premier League if I think the preparation for the world cup is being done, that will be wrong because the condition in England is fully different. Taking preparation for World Cup is imperative beside playing in the Premier League,” he added.

When Mithun was good at batting against Kiwi bowlers, most of the players were struggling. He smashed two back-to-back fifty (57 and 62) in the initial two matches before falling to injury in their third and last match of the three-match ODI series. These innings on New Zealand condition will obviously be boosted his confidence in the World Cup. But Mithun thinks it in different way.

“I had responsibility to play better cricket in New Zealand. But I did not do my duty fully. I should have extended two innings further,” he viewed.

“I don’t know are those innings brought any change inside me? Actually I try in every match wherever level I play,” he added.

“There were challenges there in New Zealand as we had no preparation for the series, we had to fly there just after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Our main challenge was to dovetail with that condition. More challenges were for batsmen because it was a matter of ball. When a batsman is in the wicket they have to stay with challenge.”
