Razzak reaches 400-wicket milestone

Prime Bank Cricket Club salvaged their second position on the points-table when they edged out Uttara Sporting Club by 57 runs (DLS method) in the rain-intervened sixth-round tie of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

By virtue of winning the match, Prime Bank pushed back Prime Doleshwar and Legends of Rupganj third and fourth position respectively with better net run-rate. They have chalked up 0.795 points, while Doleshwar earned 0.357 points and Rupganj scored -0.132 points from the identical six matches, where Abahani Limited remained pole position with 0.92 points.

Uttara Sporting Club managed to put on 182-8 in 38 overs in response to Prime Bank Cricket Club’s modest 230-7 in 38 overs.

Chasing the target, Uttara Sporting Club made a solid start as they put up 64 through their openers-Tanzid Hasan and Anisul Islam Emon but Nayeem Hasan fell prey to Tanzid, who chipped in with 35. Then the experienced Abdur Razzak showcased his spin magic.

By removing Emon, Razzak touched at 400-wicket milestone as the first Bangladesh bowler. Later he increased his wicket tally to four what he claimed by leaking only 15 runs in eight overs and was named player of the match.

After the match, the veteran spinner said that he still enjoys playing cricket.

“It is always a big matter for any player to touch any milestone. I am not exceptional of them,” said Abdur Razzak.

“Still I enjoys playing cricket. When I do well, it feels me better and if I do bad it feels me bad. The biggest thing is that I’m enjoying my cricket till now,” Razzak told media afterwards.

Sheikkh Humayun (not out 39) and Mohimenul Khan (30)  were not enough to avert the blushes of the defeat.

Prime Bank Cricket Club rode on Al Amin Junior’s 60 managed to muster a modest 230 for seven in 38 overs after being Put in to bat. Salman Hossain (37), Anamul Haque Bijoy (36), Abhimanyu Easwaran (35), Nazmul Hossain Milon (25 not out) and Alok Kapali (19) helped widen the total of 230-7 in 38 overs.  

At Khan Shaheeb Osman Ali Stadiumin Fatullah, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club edged out Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) by three wickets in the low-scoring outing.

Coming to chase the paltry target of 161, Prime Doleshwar were fumbled by BKSP bowlers when Mukidul Islam and Tanzim Hasaan Sakib sent back on-song Saif Hassan and Imran Uzzaman inside four overs.

Sakib compounded the woes further when he had Marshall Ayub for eight while Prime Doleshwar dipped at 25-3. Mahmudul Hasan Limon then tried to handle the bowlers with Shykat Ali but Limon went back to the pavilion as soon as he hit 25 with Shykat.

Together with Taibur Rahman Parvez, Shykat Ali shared 57 for the fifth-wicket stand before Shykat’s departure. The young right-arm medium fast bowler clean bowled him and missed his half-century. He knocked a six and as many four in his 78-ball 43.

Parvez then did the rest of the runs with his fellow batsmen. He scored the winning runs when he blasted Naushad Iqbal for six and made the total of 165-7 when they had 30 balls to be remained played. He was left unbeaten on 61-the highest score of the match. He whipped half-a-dozen boundaries and a six in his 105-ball knock and was named for the player of the match award. Enamul Haque Junior was on three not out.  

Earlier, BKSP were skittled out for a paltry 160 in 44.4 overs in the wake of the pace and spin combined attack. Left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny and Enamul Haque Jr along with medium pacer Shykat Ali evenly shared six wickets between them.

The match was halted for around half-an-hour 11:04am--11:34am due to the rains. But umpire did not curtain any over. BKSP opener Prantik Nawrow Nabil top-scored with 30. Akbar Ali (28), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (22), Aminul Islam (18) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (17) were the other contributors to BKSP.
