Woman found dead in Jashore

Police recovered the throat-slit body of a housewife at Paturia village in Abhaynagar upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Saleha Begum, 48, wife of Tilak Hossain of the village. Being informed by locals, police recovered the throat-slit body of Saleha around 6 pm and sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station. The reason behind the incident could not be known immediately, said the OC. A case was filed in this connection.
Paturia-Daulatdia ferry services resume

Ferry Services on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed yesterday morning after a five-hour halt due to dense fog. The services were suspended around 3:30 am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog, said Nasir Uddin, additional general manager of Aricha zone of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC). Five ferries were stuck in the middle of the river while 12 others with a good number of vehicles and passengers lay anchored at Paturia and Daulatdia terminals. Later around 8:30 am, the services resumed after visibility improved, the BIWTC officer said.
Three arrested with heroin

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged illegal drug peddlers with 1 kg 30 grams of heroin from Santashpur Battala area in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday evening. The arrested persons were identified as Md Ibrahim Babu, 30, son of Md Jarjis of Santoshpur Simatola, Md Rasel Ali, 20, son of Md Mojibur Rahman and Md Hasanuzzaman Tomas, 22, son of Md Lutfar Rahman both of Santoshpur in Gomostapur upazila of the district. RAB sources said acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the aforesaid area at around 6:10pm and arrested the trio with the heroin worth Tk one crore 30 thousand. Later, the arrested persons were handed over to police with a case.
Man killed ‘by father’

Police recovered the body of a youth from village Urahati in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh yesterday noon. The deceased was identified as Jasim Uddin, 25, son of Sultan Miah of Urahati village. Quoting local people as saying, Md Firoz Talukder, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Model Police Station said, Jasim, father of a child was a drug addict and his wife left the house recently and she has been staying at her parents house. Jasim, a tempo driver, tortured his parents now and then for money to purchase drug. A quarrel ensued between Jasim and his father Sultan when Jasim allegedly beat up his mother Sufia Khatun as she denied to pay money to buy drug on Monday night. Local people informed the union parishad chairman about the matter and the chairman informed police on Wednesday. On information, police rushed to the spot on Wednesday afternoon but sensing police presence, the inmates left the house. Police again visited the house this noon and entered into it by breaking open the door and found new earth digging under a table of the house. Being suspected, police dig out the floor of the house and found the body of Jasim inside that bore sharp injury marks, said the OC. The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Victim’s elder brother Amir Hossain lodged a case with the police station accusing three persons including his parents this afternoon. Quoting Amir Hossain, the OC also said his father Sultan Miah hacked Jasim to death with an axe on Monday night following the incident committed by Jasim. Police drives are on to arrest the killers but none was arrested as of filing this report.
