Murder suspect shot in the leg

A murder case accused sustained bullet injuries while attempting to escape from police custody in Ullapara Upazila early Monday.
The suspect was identified as Ripon Sheikh, son of Farid Sheikh. Police said he is accused more than one murder and robbery cases.
Kawshik Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station, said auto-rickshaw driver Tara Talukdar was killed by four muggers on Saturday night. Locals caught two of the four suspected murderers when they were fleeing with the vehicle.
Ripon and the other arrestee Tanvir Hossain were taken to the police station and accused in a murder case.
Later, police went to a place with Ripon to arrest the other accused.Police shot him in the knee when he tried to escape with handcuffs on. He was taken to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.
54 arrested in Satkhira

Police, in special drives arrested 54 persons from eight upazilas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning.
Police also recovered 100 grams of Ganja during the drives.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested nine persons, Kalaroa Thana police arrested five persons, Tala Thana police arrested eight persons, Kaliganj Thana police arrested seven persons, Shyamnagar Thana police arrested seven persons and recovered 100 grams of Ganja in an abandoned condition, Assasuni Thana police arrested nine persons, Patkelghata Thana police arrested five persons and Debhata police arrested four persons.
The arrested people are accused in several cases, including charges of subversive activities, filed with different police stations in the district.
The arrested were sent to jail.
Paturia-Daulatdia ferry services resume in Manikganj

Ferry Services on the key Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed on Tuesday morning after a four-hour snap.
“The services were suspended from 4:15am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog,” said Mohiuddin Russel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha terminal office.
Seven ferries were stuck in the middle of Padma River and nine ferries with a good number of vehicles and passengers lay anchored at Paturia and Daulatdia terminals. Ferry services resumed around 8am after visibility improved, the BIWTC officer said.
Four ‘hundi traders’ arrested

Four suspected hundi traders were detained with Tk10 lakh from Amrakhali area by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday night.
The detainees are Saheb Ali, 26, son of Insan Ali; Shipon Das, 38, son of Mantu Das; Polash, 35, son of Samsuddin; and Mohibur Rahman, 35, son of Amrakhali village.
Nayeb Subedar Abdul Malek of Amrakhali BGB camp said they checked Barishal-bound bus of ‘MM Paribahan’ acting on a tip-off and detained the four hundi traders with money.
The four men were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
