JU launches Sayed Shafiullah Scholarship

Jahangirnagar University launched Sayed Shafiullah Scholarship programme yesterday.
Under the programme, the institution will provide scholarships to students of honours courses under Chemistry and Environmental Sciences department.
Dr Sayed Shafiullah was the former professor of chemistry and founder chairperson of environmental sciences department at Jahangirnagar University.
Wife of Sayed Shafiullah Professor Dr Mazeda Shafiullah, of Dhaka University, launched the fund to patronise the meritorious students of the university. She handed over Tk five lakh to JU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Nurul Alam in his office yesterday.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Amir Hussain, Dean of Mathematical and Physical Sciences Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder, Dean of Biological Sciences Professor Abdul Zabbar Haoladar, Dean of Business Studies Faculty Professor Nilanzan Kumar Saha, Registrar Rahima Kaniz, Chairman of Chemistry dept Prof Nurul Abser and Chairman of Environmental Sciences dept Prof Amir Hussain Bhuiyan were present.
EWU arranges seminar on trial of war rapes

In the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, the brutality against women was not the by-product of War, it was a pre-planned genocidal war crime, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Dr Mizanur Rahman said this at a seminar at East West University (EWU) yesterday. According to him, the punishment of the perpetrator is not the end of the trial process, but there should be arrangements for compensation for the oppressed women.
East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organised a research proposal seminar titled “Trial of War Rapes: When Justice is an Issue” at EWU campus in the capital, says a press release.
The research proposal was presented by Dr Tureen Afroz, professor, Department of Law, EWU. In her presentation, based on extensive research and interview of 385 rape victims conducted throughout Bangladesh, Dr Afroze noted that complete justice was needed though some of the trails of the rapists had been successfully concluded. The seminar was conducted by Dr Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, member, Board of Trustees, EWU and Chairperson of EWUCRT. Professor Dr M M Shahidul Hassan, VC of EWU, was the special guest while Pro-VC of EWU Professor Dr Fakrul Alam was the guest of honour at the seminar.
10-minute school’s masters classes held

Online-based Robi 10-Minute School arranged six masters classes in six renowned educational institutions in Chattogram recently.
The classes were held in BGC Trust University, Asian University for Women, Enayet Bazar Mahila College, Ispahani Public College, Saint Placid’s School and College, and Southern University where hundreds of students were present, said a press release yesterday. Robi’s Chief Financial Officer Roni Tohme, Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Shahed Alam, Vice President Ekram Kabir, General Manager Towfiquzzaman Chowdhury, and Robi 10-Minute School Founder and CEO Ayman Sadiq conducted the masters classes.
The masters classes included a number of sessions that emphasized on the need for skills development in order to prepare for the digital future that awaits the students.
