‘Take part in posthumous eye donation’

Sandhani National Eye Donation Society has urged the people to emulate Dr Aleem Al-Razee's selfless act and take part in posthumous eye donation.
Dr Razee donated his eyes to give light to two visually impaired persons, enabling them to enjoy the beauty of this world and make a living for themselves.
Dr Razee was a pioneer of posthumous eye donation in Bangladesh, Sandhani said in a statement.
Shandhani President Prof Dr AKM Salek and Secretary General Dr Md Joynal Abedin urged people to follow Dr Razee's example and donate eyes posthumously to help restore eyesight of over one and a half million people in Bangladesh. Dr Razee, the father-in-law of UNB Chairman Amanullah Khan, was a celebrated jurist, parliamentarian, educationist and philanthropist. He passed away on March 15, 1985.
Jute mills workers go on strike
UNB, Dhaka
Workers of state-owned jute mills in Khulna division are enforcing a 24-hour strike to press home their nine-point demand that includes payment of outstanding wages.
The strike began at 8am yesterday.
“Our major demands include implementation of wage commission and regularisation of job,” said Md Murad, convener of Bangladesh Jute Mill Workers League of Khulna-Jashore region.
Speaker off to Morocco

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left Dhaka Monday night for Morocco to join the 14th Session of Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) that began in the Moroccan capital city Rabat yesterday.
The session will continue till March 14, said an official release here yesterday, adding that during the session, Shirin Sharmin will also join the 21st general committee meeting of the PUIC. JS Whip Iqbalur Rahim, MP, SM Shahjada, MP, Syeda Zakia Nur, MP, and Masud Uddin Chowdhury, MP, are accompanying the speaker during the visit, the release said. Shirin Sharmin is expected to return home on March 18.
BSTI files 20 cases in Khulna

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has filed twenty cases after conducting seven mobile courts in Khulna division for selling adulterated foods and not using digital weighing machines from March 03 to 07.
The mobile court conducted drives at 20 enterprises including departmental stores, 14 brick kilns, export oriented fisheries farm and construction material shops in Khulna, said a BSTI press release.
Director of BSTI Md Abdul Mannan said, nine cases have been filed against shop owners. Cases were filed against brick kilns are Five Star, N N, Three Star, Astha, Maya, A S, Halim, S S B I S, Alif, A K B C, Four Star, Mama Vagne, L M H S and NRB in Meherpur district.
Int’l Women’s Day celebrated

CARE Bangladesh organises a rally marking the International Women’s day on Monday, says a press release.
To promote gender equality and raise collective voices against gender-based violence and harassment in workplaces around the world, CARE Bangladesh organised the event in the capital.
Representatives from CARE Bangladesh and other NGOs attended the rally. The participants carried posters, banners and placards with messages on gender equality, women’s rights, workplace safety, violence against women and issues like that.
