Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club jumped to second on points-table when they powered past Prime Bank Cricket Club by five wickets in the highly-contested and high-scoring second round fixture of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP Ground-3 in Savar yesterday.

Overhauling the stiff target of 302 to win, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club mislaid their opener Shykat Ali cheaply. Young opener Saif Hasan therefore forged a couple of useful partnerships that laid the foundation of running down the target.

Saif shared 115 with Marshall Ayub for the third-wicket and another 51 with Forhad Hossain (24) for the second-wicket stand before his departure. The young opener missed his hundred for just 15 runs. He clubbed three sixes and five boundaries in his 102-ball 85.

Ayub then partnered Saad Nasim and added an invaluable 76 for the fourth-wicket before his caught behind. Marshall Ayub chipped in with 76 off 82, clobbering seven boundaries. Since then, Saad Nasim played a rapid-fire innings together with Forhad Reza but when he was out, Doleshwar were seven runs away from victory.

After Saif and Marshall, Saad also smashed half-cetunry. He whacked five sixes and two fours in his 47-ball 64. Later the Lahore-born all-rounder was named for the player of the match award.

Forhad Reza did the rest of the work with Taibur Rahman Parvez. The in-form all-rounder cracked 15-ball 35, littered with two sixes and three fours with Parvez being stranded on six.

Earlier, Prime Bank Cricket Club compiled a comprehensive 301 for eight in their stipulated 50 overs rode on Al-Amin Junior’s dazzling century (111).

The Bankers lost two openers-Rubel Mia (4) and Anamul Haque Bijoy (28) inside 14 overs after being put in to bat on BKSP’s batting surface, from where Al-Amin Jr led the rescue mission through stitching together a string of useful partnerships.

Of them, the diminutive batsman hit 110 with Sudip Chaatterjee for the third-wicket and another 85 with Zakir Hasan (36) for the fourth-wicket stand. Even if Zakir missed his half-century, Sudip notched up his fifty. West Bengal-born left-hander bashed 69-ball 57 with two boundaries and a six.

Finally when Al-Amin was out having run-out, Prime Bank put up 258 for five in 44.2 overs. He clouted 111 off 99, laced with four big sixes along with eight boundaries.

Later, Ariful Haque and Alok Kapali’s late fire surmounted the total 301 for eight. Ariful sloshed two big shots over the line to make 28 off 21 deliveries. Kapali on the other hand smacked a run-a-ball 12 with a boundary.

On-song medium fast-bowler Forhad Reza along with spinner Arafat Sunny and pacer Shykat Ali snared two wickets apiece for Prime Doleshwar.
