Tigers to start WC preparation from Apr 22

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh will formally launch their training camp on April 22 ahead of a tri-nation series and the mega event ICC Cricket World Cup-2019.

The Tigers will play the tri-nation series against hosts Ireland and the West Indies before heading into the 50-over extravaganza event, which will be held in between May (30) and July (14) in England and Wales in 2019.

Bangladesh will fly for Ireland on May 1 to play the pre-World Cup tournament, where they will stay in till May 17. They, thereafter, will travel to Leicestershire, where they will practice for five days till May 23.

And then, they will break into the ICC event, where they will play two warm-up matches on May 26 and 28 respectively before stepping into the main World Cup campaign.

“We will begin our practice for the looming World Cup since April 22. We will give a 15-member final squad. Then we will give 7-8 standby players with this squad. Overall, we will start the training camp with 22-23 players squad,” said Akram Khan, Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operation committee chairman yesterday.

“Before touring to Ireland, we will practice in Bangladesh. Then, we will travel to Ireland for the tri-nation series on May1. Since then, we will fly to England in May 18. We will practice there till May 23,” Khan told media after holding a meeting.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu were also present there.

BCB cricket operation chairman said that they will not announce the preliminary Tigers squad for the looming ICC Cricket World Cup-2019. But he said that they will directly announce the final squad for the World Cup along with some standby players according to the ICC rules.

“We would have given a 30-member squad as per the previous ICC rules. But ICC made new rules. According to it, we have to submit a 15-member squad within April 23,” he said.

“But we could change players till May 22. If any player is injured after May 22, in that case, we could send player. It would not be done earlier,” he added.

“Sometimes we have to face problems regarding visa. As a result, we could not send our players list quickly. And so, we will complete visa for 30-35 players,” he responded to a media query.
