Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has no possibility of taking part in third Test against New Zealand in Christchurch from March 16. Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operation committee chairman Akram Khan confirmed the news yesterday.
The ace all-rounder was expected to be fit ahead of the Test to make a room in the national team but BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan revealed that according to medical report there is no chance for Shakib to return to cricket before March 20.
“According to the medical report that we got, he (Shakib) can’t return to cricket before March 20,” Akram said.
“After returning to cricket, he needs training after which we’ll determine in which position he is now. So there is no possibility that he can go to New Zealand.”Akram also said that the all-rounder will not return to his real practice with bat-ball before March 20 that means he did not get opportunity to play any match of the ongoing tour in New Zealand.
The iconic all-rounder was scheduled to travel to New Zealand to play at least the third and last Test of the three-Test series if the fitness would permit him after being healed from his injury.
Shakib was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand just before the tour because he sustained injury on his finger while batting in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on February 8.
He was struggling against injury during the first two Test of the three-Test series. Even though he has been practicing for the last one week, he is yet to ready for fighting with bat-ball.
But he is sanguine of returning of wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim though he is disheartened for Shakib’s unable to play for his injury.
“Mushfiq is recovering. But he will play or not that will be got to know two-three days before the outset of the third Test. But we are hopeful Mushfiq will play third Test,” he said of Mushfiqur Rahim.
The loss of those key players-Shakib and Mushfiqur left Bangladesh’s middle order vulnerable as they tasted several collapse in ongoing series against New Zealand despite a good start from the openers.
Both Shakib and Mushfiqur had some fine innings in New Zealand soil during Bangladesh’s tour there in 2017. In Wellington in which Bangladesh are now staring at defeat, Shakib produced his highest Test score 217, his only double century while Mushfiqur Rahim made a classy 159.
