DU alumni reunion held

The grand reunion of Dhaka University (DU) Alumni Association was held at the central playground of the university on Saturday amid fanfare and much enthusiasm. The daylong programme was inaugurated by DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman at 10am, while former finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was the chief guest. The DU VC in his speech said that the university always played vital role for the country and the nation. "Whenever any crises appear, teachers and students of the institution take the lead to address those," he said. In his speech Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "The birth of Bangladesh as an independent country is connected with this university. The contribution of the students and teachers of this university will never be forgotten. It's is a living legend in the history of Bangladesh." Presided over by DU alumni association president AK Azad, former vice-president of DUCSU Tofail Ahmed, DU alumni association former president Syed Manzur Elahi and its general secretary Ranjan Karmakar addressed the inaugural session. DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad, former DU VCs, cabinet members, members of the parliament, judges, VCs of different universities of the country, politicians, Sadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak winners, cultural activists and senior officials of the government and non-government organizations, among others, were also presented at the program.
Freshers’ reception held at RU

A freshers’ reception for the students of of Rajshahi University (RU) under 2018-19 academic sessions was held at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium yesterday. RU vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan attended the function as the chief guest while. Pro-vice chancellor Prof Chawdhury Md Zakaria, Professor Emeritus Prof Arun Kumar Bosakh, Treasurer Prof Mostafizur Rahman and Proctor Prof Luthfor Rahman addressed the programme as special guests. Convener of arrangement committee Pro-VC Prof Dr Ananda Kumar Saha presided over the programme while university student advisor Prof Laila Arjuman Banu delivered welcome speech and acting registrar Prof MA Bari conducted it. RU VC Professor Dr. M AbdusSobhan said the purpose of education is to acquire knowledge from reality and to engage it for the betterment of country and mankind. He, however, called fresher’s students of the university to keep away from evil forces in the institution. Later, a cultural function was also held.
Workshop on ‘library digitalisation’ begins

A three-day workshop on 'library digitalization and automation' began at Islamic University in Kushita on Saturday with a view to making campus based digital library. IU former proctor and syndicate member Professor M Mahbubar Rahman inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest at the university's central library in the morning. IU librarian M Ataur Rahman conducted the workshop while a team led by Khulna University of Engineering and Technology's librarian Akkas Ali took part in the workshop. Among others, IU student advisor Professor Paresh Chandra Barman, Professor Ahsan-Ul-Haque Ambia and assistant proctor Anisur Rahman were also present there.
