The 16th anniversary of death of Masud Ahmed Rumi, former president of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) and a renowned sports organiser, will be observed today. Rumi, a valiant freedom fighter, started sports journalism in 1978 in now defunct Dainik Bangla and stayed there till the closure of the national Bengali daily in 1997. Then he joined BSS as sports editor and worked there till his death on March 11, 2003 at the age of 55. He was born in Naogoan on January 1 in 1948. He was also actively associated with politics and he was a member of Bangladesh Chattra League central committee. The BSJA recalled his contribution to country’s sports journalism and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
