Speakers at a meeting stressed on joint collaboration between the government and civil society organisations for eliminating child labour in the country’s dried fish sector. If there is effective collaboration between them, it would be easy to achieve the target of completely eliminating worst form of child labour by 2021 and complete elimination of all child labour by 2025, they said. They made the remarks while addressing a consultation meeting on child labour in dried fish sector at Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) at Karwan Bazar in the capital yesterday.
Held under the ‘Child Labour Improvements in Bangladesh (CLIMB)’ project, INCIDIN Bangladesh in collaboration with Winrock International and Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) organised the programme.
Chaired by Dr Mustafizur Rahman, joint inspector general of DIFE, AHM Zaman Khan, director of CLIMB project of Winrock, Dr Shamsul Alam Khan, joint inspector general of DIFE, and Dr Syed Abul Ehsan, joint inspector general of DIFE, among others, spoke at the function.
Moderated by Matiur Rahaman, deputy inspector general of DIFE, Advocate Rafiqual Islam Khan, manager (programme) of INCIDIN Bangladesh, presented the keynote paper.
In his presentation, Advocate Rafiqual said works done by children in the sector is considered as worst form of child labour.
