 Special public lecture held at DU
The faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Dhaka yesterday organised a public lecture on 'Education for Sustainable Development' at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, reports BSS. The child rights activist and Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi delivered the lecture. The programme was moderated by Dr Taiabur Rahman, Prof of Development Studies. A brief presentation on the biography and work of the Nobel laureate was given by Kazi Mysha Musarrat, a lecturer from the same department. The programme was chaired by the acting Dean of Social Sciences Prof Dr Shafique uz Zaman. The session ended with a question/answer round where students asked Satyarthi questions about his work and how they can contribute to the society, to which the Nobel laureate gave quite inspiring answers.
RU classes resume today
RAJSHAHI: All the classes, examinations and academic activities of Rajshahi University (RU) will resume today after a 23-day summer vacation, university sources said. Students have already started to return to the campus as the dormitories for both male and female students have been opened. The authorities have taken proper security measures for the students. Gowher attends lecture series at AIUB Gowher Rizvi, international affairs adviser to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as a guest speaker attended the summer 2014-15 edition of the Dr Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series held at American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) auditorium on Wednesday, says a press release.   Gowher delivered a very informative and motivating speech on ‘India-Bangladesh relations’ in the context of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Bangladesh in the 1st week of June 2015.   Rizvi claimed that many unresolved issues with India were settled in the last five years due to Bangladesh’s good bilateral relations with the neighboring country. Only cooperation, not confrontation could resolve the persisting issues centering poverty, terrorism, migration, border and trade gap etc that guide the bilateral relation of the two countries, Dr Gowher added. Vice-Chancellor of AIUB Carmen Z Lamagna was also present on the occasion. Dr ABM Siddique Hossain, dean, and Faculty of Engineering, delivered welcome speech. As a sign of gratitude, a crest was presented to Gowher Rizvi by Carmen Z Lamagna, Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, along with Tofazzal Hossain, vice president, Academic and Dean (FSIT). Professor Tazul Islam, dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science, in his vote of thanks  highlighted on the benefits of such seminars. Farhana Afroz, head department of Media and Mass Communication, was the master of ceremony of the programme.  
Maritime university syndicate meeting held
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, the first ever specialized university of the country, organised its 4th Syndicate Meeting at a hotel in the capital on Saturday, says a press release. The meeting was chaired by the university Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Baten and attended by syndicate members and officials of the university. Various development matters of the university were discussed in the meeting. Mentionable, the university is going to start two specialized Post-Graduate programmes in July this year, namely Masters in Port and Shipping Management and LLM in Maritime Law. University’s different drafts of regulations like recruitment statutes, service statutes and finance & accounts manual were discussed and MPhil and PhD regulations and University Organogram were approved in the meeting.
