The Barishal City Corporation (BCC) has started drives to demolish risky buildings that have violated their approved plans in the city. Under this drive, the BCC started knocking down two top floors of a 11-storied building under construction on Line Road on Saturday for violating the approved plan. A BCC team, led by BCC state officer Md Shakil, condcuted the drive. The team comprised 40 labourers.
Shakil said the owner of the building had received approval for the construction of a nine-storied building. But he constructed 11 floors without any permission for extending the plan. The BCC sent him a prior notice him to demolish the illegally constructed floors. "As the owner did not take any step, the BCC has started demolishing the illegal parts," he added.
However, Altaf Hossain, owner of the building, said: "We submitted necessary documents to construct 11 stories, extending the previously approved part of the nine-storied building..
But the BCC authorities started demolishing the extended part without any notice, he added.
Some of the multi-storied buildings under the BCC area have added extra floors without any permission, said BCC superintending engineer Md Anisuzzaman.
"The BCC has started a survey to find out such illegal buildings and action would be taken against them. We will ask the owners of those buildings to demolish the illegal part.
In case the owners do not pay attention to our notice, we'll do the work," he added. BCC state department sources said the BCC already found 34 risky buildings. The city corporation is still continuing its survey to find out multi-storied buildings constructed without any approval. This figure may increased after completion of the survey, said the sources.
