The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have temporarily suspended its seven students for their involvement in ragging to the fresher students on the campus. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of JU syndicate that was held yesterday where JU Vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam was in the chair. Syndicate member and Dean of Social Science faculty Professor Dr Rasheda Akhter confirmed The Independent after syndicate meeting.
“All suspended students will not able to take part in regular classes and disallow to stay in dormitory”, she said. The suspended students are: Ankan Vadra and Md Saifur Rahman Sharkar of Al Beruni Hall, Md Rakib Hossain of Rabindranath Tagore Hall, Tanvir Ahmed Shuvo of Mawlana Bhashani Hall, Kifayat Sadman Eshadi, Rubya binte Hashem, and Naszashi Sultana of Jahanara Emam Hall.
All are students of JU Public Health and Informatics department under the academic session 2017-18 (47th batch).
A five member probe body has been formed headed by Professor Rasheda Akhter and asked to submit report within 10 working days.
Earlier, the suspended students were reportedly physically and mentally harassed the fresher students of Public Health and Informatics department near Jahangirnagar University School and College area.
Being informed, the disciplinary body decided to suspend them after primary investigative report.
